METIS 3

The new airfoil as well as other well balanced features allow us to introduce an EN B certified tandem glider that meets all major requirements for professional use.

No matter how much the glider will be appreciated by paragliding professionals because it is light and well trimmed for excellent flight behaviour, it will be mostly the passengers who need easy take off, stable and smooth flight even in rough airs and great flair for safe and easy landing.

And this is the point where METIS 3 will excel: the classical V structure and optimised construction of the canopy and hard work of the test pilots streamed into a real paragliding experience for both the pilots and their passengers.

The main distinctive features are:

  • Excellent gliding ratio and maximum speed
  • Wide speed range
  • Efficiency climbing in thermals
  • Easy take off
  • Smooth landing with great flair
  • Well balanced handling with balanced yaw and roll and progressive pressure in the brakes
  • Low weight and high durability due the new materials

Each glider is delivered with:

R&D team comments

The task defined by the team was quite tricky. You have to bring the tandem that will be fun to fly for the pilot and easy to enjoy for the passenger who might suffer from airsickness. As neither of us wanted to land with the passengers’ pizzas in the equipment, we had to work hard to make the glider great to fly for a pilot and stable enough to deal with turbulences of strong Alpine thermals, for passengers.

As the passenger's safety ad comfort is a great issue for all of us, we wanted to make a glider which is easy to land with exceptional flair. At the take-off we wanted to avoid the usual rugby and football shouts when running after the inflation and the goal to make it a real experience for the passenger from the very beginning...

As the glider was a well behaved child from the very first prototype, we could spend half a year trimming and test flying the wing in many different conditions.

As far as the construction is concerned, it must be light and long lasting. Well, all the usual demands...

So, we used the usual motto we have: the METIS 3 has ALL the pieces it needs and ONLY the pieces it needs, it uses classical V structure, Light Nylon bridles structure the Mylar nose-reinforcements on the main ribs; they are removable and replaceable and are mainly meant to prevent the pilot from over-creasing the nose-part of the ribs while packing. Of course, for Sky Paragliders now traditional Adiprène vents-reinforcement are also used on the METIS 3 to ensure that the launching characteristics will remain throughout the whole lifespan of the glider.

So, this is what we did and the way we thought about the glider. it is up to you to test the glider with a passengers and let us know how is the job we did.

Materials

Canopy

The canopy is made out of the material DOKDO produced by South Korean textile factory Dominico Textiles. To reach the high quality and increase the durability of the canopy, we combine several material and coatings. The upper panel are made of DOKDO-N20 DMF (WR), 36 grams per square meter. Profiles are made of DOKDO-N30 DFM. Download the original  technical data sheets.

The material is made of Nylon 6.6 fibres (PA fibres) produced by Du Pont. The weaving pattern is the so called RipStop structure.

Line scheme

The lines on the GAIA are of the highest quality and are supplied by the German firm EDELRID andCOUSIN TRESTEC. These lines create high resistance from mechanical abrasion as well as a high degree of length stability.

For the upper cascade we used ELDERID 7850–080 lines. These lines are one millimetre in diameter; the core is manufactured out of “dyneema” and the outer sheath from polyester. The lower lines are manufactured by COUSIN TRESTEC and main brake line are from EDELRID 7850–200.

Risers

The risers are made from 20 mm wide webbing, it is manufactured by our supplier MOUKA TIŠNOV. The suspension lines areconnected to the risers by means of quick links (maillons) made by the French supplier Maillon Rapide.

SKY SYSTEM II

SKY SYSTEM II is the second generation of Sky Paragliders popular reserve. The RESERVE is ENLTF certified and guarantees the best safety. The reserve is only 1,5 kg (90 size), it deploys very quickly and the sink rate meets the demanding EN standard of 5.5 m/s.

The use of more affordable materials as well as standardised and automated manufacturing methods yields especially good value with all the values needed for the safe and relaxed flying.
